What We Love About Christmas Invitations

What We Love About Christmas Invitations article header
We went through hundreds of invitations from last year and here’s what we loved about so many of them.

The right size.

First off, you have to keep them small enough to fit in a pocket. We’ve seen some churches use postcards for invitations. That’s fine and it may very well work for them. However, if you really want people to take them and use them by handing them out to their friends, coworkers, neighbors, enemies, and everyone else, a postcard may not be the most effective use. A pocket-sized card can easily slide into a wallet or purse or shirt pocket and be ready to hand out when the moment feels right. Postcards, more than likely, are going to get left in that space in the car between the seat and the console, only to be found in the summer when they clean out the car again.

Our invitation cards come in three styles: standard (rectangle), circle, or square. All three styles fit the size requirements mentioned above.

The right information.

You don’t have much space to communicate the information, so make sure you maximize the message by including what is important. That should include:

  1. The name of your church
  2. Your services time(s)
  3. Where they can find out more (website or social)
  4. A clear invitation

The right design.

Let’s face it. Christmas has its own look. Doesn’t it? From the colors to the iconography, when we see these certain combinations we know what the message will ultimately be. While you can get creative within the parameters of the Christmas look, it often makes the most sense to keep it simple and stick with what people have come to love and expect at Christmas all while maintaining your own brand and logo as a part of the overall concept.

Many people get warm feelings around the Christmas season. Use that knowledge to your advantage by connecting the dots between your Christmas events and the traditions from their past by using that classic imagery.

ProTip: Give yourself plenty of time to complete this project. If you are ordering your invitations a week before Christmas, you’re too late. We recommend finalizing your order before Black Friday in order to have the invitations on hand for your people to collect at the beginning of December so they can hand them out throughout the month.

Here are some of our favorite invitation cards from last year’s Christmas season. Use these as inspiration as you craft the perfect invitation to your Christmas services this year!
